Structure of camshaft: 
The main body of the camshaft is a cylindrical rod with the same length as the cylinder group. There are several cams on it to drive the valve. One end of the camshaft is the bearing support point, and the other end is connected to the driving wheel. 
The side of the cam is egg-shaped. The purpose of its design is to ensure the sufficient intake and exhaust of the cylinder, specifically to complete the opening and closing of the valve in as short a time as possible. In addition, considering the durability and smooth operation of the engine, the valve should not have too much impact due to the acceleration and deceleration process in the opening and closing action, otherwise it will cause serious wear and tear of the valve, increased noise or other serious consequences. Therefore, there is a direct relationship between cam and engine power, torque output and running comfort. 
Generally speaking, in an in-line engine, a cam corresponds to a valve, while a V-type engine or a horizontal opposed engine shares a cam for every two valves. The rotor engine and valveless valve engine do not need cam because of their special structure.
